DEI, short for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, sounds like a laudatory attempt toward racial equality. But in its most frequently packaged form on college campuses it comes loaded with narratives and practices that lead not to academic freedom but to groupthink. Dare to disagree with any of its tenents and you’ll soon discover there’s only one “safe” way to think.
In the category of questions you’d rather not answer, Ross Douthout asks readers to consider which dystopia they would prefer—one fashioned by the extreme right or the extreme left. Lucy, thanks for bringing this problem to my attention. I will try to use the gift sharing option in future whenever I post from the New York Times. If it works, the articles won’t count against the number of free articles you can access. Have you tried putting the title of the article in a Google search? This usually works for both the NYT and WSJ.
Let me know if this continues to be a problem.
I love the carefully curated articles you bring to my attention through Surfing the Culture. Unfortunately I cannot read any more New York Times articles for free so I wasn't able to see 2 of the pieces that were in this week's email. Most likely there are others like me who don't subscribe to the NYT. There really aren't any work arounds for this.
